Poppit Sands is just 2 miles away and is a Blue Flag bathing beach backed by sand dunes. Lifeguards patrol the beach between July and August from 10.00 – 6.00 each day for your peace of mind. It is a half mile beach suitable for kite flying and it is also the start of the Pembrokshire coastal path to Amroth which is 180 miles away. Poppit Sands is the closest beach to Cardigan town and St. Dogmael’s with level access.
Mwnt Beach is a sheltered sandy cove, owned by the National Trust. This popular beach is off the beaten track but can still get busy in the height of summer. The steep steps leading to the beach make it unsuitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs. There is parking in a field above the beach. Swimming conditions are considered safe at Mwnt but there is no lifeguard service here.
Other beaches include Aberporth, Cwmtydu, Llangrannog, Penbryn, Tresaith and New Quay to the north and Newport Sands to the south.

The market town of Cardigan is an essential stop on your visit to Cardigan Bay. The slow pace of change in this part of Wales has helped preserve the character and charm of this ancient town. The narrow streets, traditional shops, inns and eating places many with their original Georgian and Victorian fronts help create a unique visitor experience.

The Preseli Hills are the setting for the famous Angel Mountain series of historical novels which give a fascinating insight to life gone by in this area.
The Preseli Hills comprise wild, mysterious, rolling moors roamed by sheep and ponies and provide a superb terrain for walkers and horse riders. Although climbing to just 1760 feet at the highest point they (on a clear day) afford exceptional all round views to the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland, Snowdonia in the north, the Brecon Beacons to the east and the Bristol Channel and West Country to the south.
These hills were well populated by Prehistoric man and there are Neolithic burial chambers, Bronze Age cairns, stone circles, standing stones and Iron Age forts in the area, The bluestones that make up much of the inner circle of Stonehenge are made from spotted dolerite and it is reported that some of the bluestones came from the Preselies.
One walk over The Preseli’s is called The Golden Road, an ancient trackway along the ridge of the mountains. A community bus service called The Preseli Green Dragon can be used to make walking in The Preseli’s much easier. It stops at all the most important access points on and around the Preseli’s. There is a circular walk circumnavigating The Preseli’s called The Preseli Circle.

The Ffos Las racecourse was built at the site of the open cast coal mine after mining operations ceased and is the first new National Hunt racecourse to be built in the United Kingdom for 80 years, and Wales’s third. Ffos Las was built at a cost of £20 million, with the racetrack itself an oval 12 furlongs in length.
The course opened on June 18, 2009 when it held its first race meeting to a sell-out crowd of 10,000. The first ever race at Ffos Las was won by 15-8 second favourite Plunkett ridden by Donal Fahy, trained by Evan Williams and owned by Hywel Jones.
In 2010, there are 28 race meetings planned, including a three day Flat programme in August and a two mile £60,000 conditions race on January 9. The racecourse owners intend to introduce a new Celtic Festival in future years to be held around St. David’s Day.Visit the website at www.ffoslasracecourse.com
